Frequently asked questions
Joining
Who can join Kwemou?
Kwemou brings together African and Afro-descendant families, in Africa and across the diaspora. Every family that shares this vision is welcome: mixed couples, friends of the community, families who want to keep African cultures alive for their children.
Do you need to be of African heritage to join Kwemou?
No. Kwemou is centered on African cultures: the meetups, the food, the languages, the proverbs and the celebrations are at its heart. If you want to share them with your children, you are welcome, by invitation from a member family or after approval, like every family.
Do you need an invitation?
An invitation from a member family activates your account right away. Without one, you can still create your account: we approve it before you can access meetups.
Can both parents have access?
Yes. One account per family, and each parent logs in with their own email address.
Why no password?
You receive a login link by email. It's simpler, and safer.
Taking part
How do I join a meetup?
Send a request from the meetup page. The organizer accepts it, declines it, or puts you on the waiting list if it's full.
How much does a meetup cost?
Every meetup shows its budget. It is shared among the families and recalculated according to the number of participants. Kwemou doesn't collect any payments: you buy your tickets directly through the link provided, and you settle shared costs with the organizer.
What if I can no longer come?
Cancel from your account as early as possible: another family can take your spot.
Can I take part in another city?
Yes, that's actually the idea: when you travel, check what's planned there.
Organizing
Who can organize?
Families with organizer status. Any member family can start by co-organizing a meetup with a family that has done it before. After taking part in two meetups and co-organizing one of them, it can ask for organizer status. Founding families have it from the start.
What does the platform do for me?
Sign-ups, the shared budget, the list of participants, the kibaraza and reminders.
Children and data
What information about my children?
Their first name and date of birth, nothing else. We ask for the full date because many attractions set their prices by exact age, and so the community can celebrate their birthday. It is never displayed.
Who can see my children?
The organizers of the meetups you take part in see their first names and their age on the day of the meetup, never their date of birth. Other families only see a summary.
How do we delete our account?
From Settings. All of your family's and your children's data is erased.
Cost
Is membership paid?
Yes, it's an annual membership per family. Until December 31, 2027, the first year is free.
Why pay to meet other families?
Kwemou doesn't sell friends. The membership keeps the platform alive: invitations, checking every family, protecting children, the tools to organize and the team that looks after the community. The meetups themselves are organized by families, at cost: Kwemou takes nothing from them. Many are free or almost free, like a picnic or an afternoon at the park. And the membership price is adapted to the cost of living in each country.
What is the founding price?
The price goes up as more families from your country join Kwemou. In France, for example: €19 per year for the first 10 paying families, then €29, €39, €49 and €59. Prices are adapted to the cost of living in each country. If you pay right away, you keep your price for life, as long as you renew every year. By paying, you give up the free year.
What is a founding family?
In each country, the first 10 families who pay the founding price become Kwemou's founding families in that country. They keep this title forever.
What if I stop and come back later?
You rejoin at the price in effect when you return.
